Three Supreme Court lawyers have sent a legal notice to the government, demanding the immediate removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam within 24 hours for his alleged involvement in the 2009 BDR carnage.

The notice, issued by Md Abdus Samad, Md Shahin Hossain and Md Atiqur Rahman, warns that legal action will be initiated if the government fails to act within the specified timeframe.

Copies of the notice have been addressed to the Chief Secretary at Chief Adviser’s Office, as well as the Senior Secretaries of Home Affairs and Public Administration Ministries and Secretary of Law Ministry.

The notice follows the submission of a report by the National Independent Inquiry Commission on the BDR carnage to Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus on Sunday.

The report reportedly implicates several officials from former Awami League government, ruling party members and foreign entities in orchestrating the killing of senior army officials at Pilkhana February on 25–26 in 2009.
