
A writ was filed on Wednesday seeking suspension of the proceedings to hold the 13th parliamentary elections.
The petition seeks a ruling asking why the decision to appoint deputy commissioners and upazila executive officers as returning officers and assistant returning officers, replacing district and upazila election officers, should not be declared illegal.
Adv Iarul Islam, secretary general of the registered political party Bangladesh Congress, filed the writ.
Lawyers said the hearing of the writ petition will be held the next week.
The chief election commissioner and other relevant officials have been made respondents in the writ.
Mentionable, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on November 29, said the schedule for the parliamentary election will be announced in the second week of December.
