Elderly man killed in Dinajpur fire

An elderly man was killed in a fire that erupted at Nawabganj upazila in Dinajpur district on Tuesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Roich Uddin, 62, a resident of Maharajpur Guchchhogram under Mahmudpur union in the upazila.

According to locals, a fire broke out at around 7 PM, originating from an electrical short circuit, which caused Roich to be burnt to death, ravaged 11 houses and killed seven cows in the fire.

Locals said that the blaze started from a short circuit in one house and quickly spread to nearby homes, leaving residents unable to contain it.

Fire service units later reached the spot and brought the flames under control.

Nababganj Fire Service station officer Abu Musa said that Roich Uddin was unable to escape and died after being burnt. He estimated the damage at around Tk 15 lakh.

Nababganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zillur Rahman confirmed the casualties and said that rehabilitation support will be arranged soon.
