Department of Environment has demolished seven kiln chimneys and imposed fines totalling Tk 16 lakh at Hathazari upazila in Chattogram district on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, a team of officials led by Executive Magistrate Md Rezwan Ul Islam conducted a day-long raid against illegal brick kilns and fined M/s Karnaphuli Bricks (KRM) Tk 1 lakh, M/s Charia Meghna Bricks (NBM) Tk 2 lakh, M/s Kazi Bricks Manu (KBM) Tk 2 lakh, M/s Shahen Shah Bricks Field (SNF) Tk 2 lakh, M/s Kaderia Bricks (KBC) Tk 2 lakh, M/s Chattola Bricks (CBM) Tk 2 lakh, M/s Century Bricks (CBM-1) Tk 2 lakh and M/s Himalaya Bricks Tk 3 lakh for violating the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (amended 2019) and the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (amended 2010).
Mobile court Executive Magistrate Md Rezwan Ul Islam confirmed the drive and emphasised that such actions will continue in the public interest.
Chattogram District Department of Environment Deputy Director Md Mojahidur Rahman, Research Officer Md Ashraf Uddin, Senior Chemist Miss Jannatul Ferdous, Inspector Chandan Biswas and Data Entry Operator Kazi Iftikar Uddin were present during the drive, along with law enforcement personnel from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
