Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam on Tuesday cautioned that any attempt to manipulate or snatch ballots in the upcoming national election would be met with firm resistance from voters and party supporters.
Speaking at a rally at Ambika Maidan in Faridpur town, Azharul urged his supporters to stand watch at every polling station to safeguard the vote.
“You must ensure that no one can steal a single ballot,” he said, adding that any group attempting to interfere with the voting process would be stopped.
Azharul told the crowd that Jamaat leaders had “risked their lives” to reach this stage, insisting that the party’s struggle was rooted in a vision of a prosperous and just Bangladesh.
He alleged that some of the party’s top leaders had been victims of “judicial killings” because of their resistance to foreign influence over national affairs.
He said the upcoming election represented a rare opportunity for the country, claiming that a Jamaat-led government, if elected, would make Bangladesh self-reliant, corruption-free and fully sovereign.
The vote, he added, should serve as a turning point to eliminate extortion and political violence.
Earlier in the day, Azharul visited the grave of former Jamaat assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Molla, offering prayers.
The rally was chaired by Faridpur district Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Badruddin and attended by central committee members Muhammad Delwar Hossain, Shasul Islam Al Barati, as well as constituency candidates Prof Abdut Tawab, Prof Dr Md Ilias Molla, Sohbur Hossain and Maulana Sarwar Hossain.
