The High Court (HC) has asked government authorities to explain why a uniform policy has not yet been introduced to regulate residential house rent across all city corporation areas, including Dhaka.

A bench comprising Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi and Justice Raziuddin Ahmed issued the rule on Tuesday following a hearing on a writ petition.

The court directed the local government secretary, Dhaka North and South City Corporations, and other relevant agencies to submit their responses within four weeks.

Advocate Parvez Hossain represented the petitioner during the hearing.

The writ was filed by Imtiaz Uddin, a resident of Azimpur in Dhaka, who sought a directive for formulating a comprehensive rent-regulation framework to ensure consistency and prevent arbitrary increases in urban housing costs.
