Govt approves import of 2.20 lakh MT wheat from US

The government has approved the import of 2.20 lakh metric tons of wheat from the United States under a Government-to-Government (G2G) arrangement.

The approval came from 48th meeting of Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase in this year held on Tuesday virtually with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

The Ministry of Food proposed the procurement, which will be executed by Directorate General of Food.
The wheat will be supplied by Agrocorp International PTE Ltd, an authorized partner of US Wheat Associates.

The total consignment will cost Tk 842.06 crore, with the price set at US$312.25 per metric ton.

Officials present at the meeting noted that the import aims to bolster public food reserves and ensure an adequate supply for various social safety net programs.
