Proposed Central Univ students block Shahbagh to press for classes

Students of the proposed undergraduate programme of Dhaka Central University have once again taken to the streets, blocking Dhaka's Shahbagh intersection on Sunday to press their demand for the immediate commencement of classes for the 2024-25 academic year.

The blockade began around 2:30 pm, intensifying the day's earlier demonstrations that had already halted traffic at the Science Lab intersection from noon.

After completing their sit- in at Science Lab, the demonstrators marched back to Shahbagh where they stood at the busy intersection chanting slogans and accusing the authorities of failing to honour their academic commitments. The students alleged that the university had repeatedly assured them that classes would begin on schedule, but those assurances had not been translated into action.
