A special meeting of the Council of Advisers on Saturday prayed for the swift recovery of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, was held at his office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain led the doa, according to the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
The Council also gave in-principle and final approval to the draft of the Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. The amendment introduces changes to several sections of the current law, simplifies NGO registration procedures, and eases conditions for the release of foreign grants. Donations up to Taka 50 lakh per year will no longer require prior approval, making the law more stakeholder-friendly.
Additionally, the draft of the Police Commission Ordinance, 2025 was presented, but the Council instructed that it be revised and placed again in the next meeting in a more detailed form.
At the session, Expatriates' Welfare Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul informed the Council that the remaining 24 individuals detained in the UAE over allegations of involvement in the July mass uprising would be released soon. He said they are expected to return to Bangladesh within two to three days.
