A grandmother and her granddaughter were killed in a road crash at Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur district on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Nazma Begum, 55, a resident of Laxmipur village under Faridganj upazila in the district, and her granddaughter Marzia Akter, 8.
According to locals, the incident occurred when a speeding passenger bus crashed them on the Chandpur–Cumilla regional road while they were walking along the road at around 9:45 PM, leaving them critically injured.
Later, locals rushed them to Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared Marzia dead and referred her grandmother to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital.
Hajiganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohiuddin Faruq confirmed the incident and said that the bodies were handed over to the family without autopsy, as no case was filed.
The bus, along with its supervisor, was taken into police custody, added the OC.
