Dawn appointed new president of Badminton Federation

 
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has reconstituted the Bangladesh Badminton Federation, appointing former athlete Md Habib Ullah Dawn as its new president. The 19-member committee was formally announced on 24 November, with Russell Kabir continuing as general secretary.

This reorganisation follows the unexpected resignation of Salahuddin Alamgir, the former ad-hoc committee president, who stepped down scarcely a month after taking charge. His departure paved the way for a seasoned figure, one whose career has been interwoven with the nation's sporting evolution.

For more than three decades, Dawn has stood as a steadfast presence in Bangladesh's sporting arena. With a temperament rooted in tradition and a long-held devotion to nurturing talent, he has served in prominent roles across multiple federations. His leadership as vice-president of the cricket committee during the distinguished era of Mohammedan Sporting Club remains a highlight of his administrative legacy.

Dawn also brought purposeful direction to the Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation and the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, where he achieved grassroots expansion, structural discipline, and opportunities for young athletes.
 
Officials indicate that the committee will focus on strengthening infrastructure, establishing dedicated training facilities, and expanding youth engagement at district and upazila levels. Plans are also being laid to host regular national and international tournaments, positioning the sport for sustainable competitive growth.
