A Jubo Dal activist was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of miscreants near the traffic police box at Patgudam Bridge in Mymensingh on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the area around 3:00 PM.
The deceased, Reduan Jahan Riyad, 28, son of Saidul Haque Khan, a resident of Kalibari area in the district, was an activist Mymensingh Citty unit of Jubo Dal.
Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Shibirul Islam said that Riyad was reportedly attacked following a dispute involving a gang of robbers.
They are trying to apprehend the suspects.
Riyad’s father said that his son, who was politically active alongside Jubo Dal leader Inshan, was left injured inside the temporary police box for a prolonged period without assistance. “I don’t understand who or why they killed him,” he said.
Inshan, joint secretary of Mymensingh city Jubo Dal, urged the authorities to quickly identify and arrest the perpetrators, calling for a review of CCTV footage from the scene.
Shafiqul Islam, in charge of the police camp at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said Riyad was brought to the hospital with severe bleeding from a stab wound above the knee. Despite treatment, he was pronounced dead around 5:30 pm.
His body has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
