A husband killed his seven-month pregnant wife at Haimchar upazila in Chandpur district on Sunday.
Police have arrested Zahirul Islam, 30, the accused husband of the victim Kakoli Begum, 22, after the incident.
The murder took place on Sunday (November 23) afternoon in Radhi Kandi area under Nilkamal union.
According to police and locals, Zahirul, a local resident, brutally killed his seven-month pregnant wife Kakoli Begum on Sunday afternoon. After his arrest, Zahirul confessed in a video interview that he believed the unborn child was not his. He accused Kakoli of being involved in “immoral activities” and claimed she had relationships with other men. Zahirul said, “I couldn’t tolerate her behaviour. I took her near the paddy field, tied her hands and legs, and killed her.” He also claimed that these alleged issues had caused unrest in their family life.
Nilkamal UP Chairman Monir Sikder quickly informed Ishanbala Baherchar police outpost. Being informed, SI Kabir of the outpost and the accompanying force went to the spot and recovered the body of the victim from the paddy field and arrested Zahirul from the spot.
Haimchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam said, ''I went to the spot as soon as I came to know about the matter. The murderer has been arrested. Senior authorities of Chandpur District Police have come to inspect the spot.''
