JHENAIGATI, SHERPUR, Nov 22: In Sherpur-3 (Jhenaigati-Sreebardi) constituency, Mohammad Mahmudul Haque Rubel, the BNP-nominated candidate for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, a member of the BNP's National Executive Committee, and former Member of Parliament, has stated that the upcoming national parliamentary election is about rebuilding the country, strengthening the economy, and establishing people's voting rights and freedom of speech.
He said the people are united to ensure the victory of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' and that no conspiracy can stop its victory, God willing.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a citizens' rally held on Saturday noon on the Nalkura Union Parishad ground in Jhenaigati Upazila. The rally was organized to increase public engagement and build a mass wave in favour of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol ahead of the 13th National Parliament election.
The former MP further said, "For the past 17 years, the BNP and the people of the country have endured immense persecution.
They have given their lives, endured imprisonment and torture. Many victims of enforced disappearance have not yet returned. So much bloodshed and sacrifice for the rights of the people and democracy cannot go in vain.
We have overcome a difficult path of movement and struggle by remaining united. By remaining united under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and by ensuring the victory of the 'Sheaf of Paddy,' we will collectively rebuild and renovate the two upazilas of my constituency anew."
He added, "If the 31-point national reconstruction plan announced by Tarique Rahman is implemented, democracy, good governance, accountability, people's fundamental rights, and balanced development of haors, hills, and plains will be ensured in the country."
The meeting was presided over by Md. Hamidul Islam, Acting President of Nalkura Union BNP. Conducted by Md. Rokonuzzaman, General Secretary of Nalkura Union BNP and Union Parishad Chairman, the event also featured speeches from Jhenaigati Upazila BNP Convener Md. Shahjahan Akand, Joint Convener Md. Abdul Mannan, Upazila Jubo Dal Convener Md. Masum Billah, BNP leader Abu Saleh Ahmed, and others.
At the citizens' rally, grassroots voters chanted the slogan, "We are all a united force, we will vote for the 'Sheaf of Paddy'," demonstrating a unified stance.
The rally was attended by leaders and activists of the local BNP, Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Krishak Dal, and its associated and affiliated organizations, as well as the general public.
