Ireland were bowled out for 265 runs in the Mirpur test, narrowly avoiding the follow-on, as Bangladesh chose to bat again with a 211-run lead.
Chasing 476 in the first innings, Ireland resumed the third day at 98 for 5 but failed to make significant progress in the opening session. The breakthrough came in the 59th over when Taijul Islam struck twice, dismissing Stephen Doheny (46) and new batter Andy McBrine, reducing Ireland to 175 for 7.
Larcan Tucker and Jordan Neill added 74 runs for the eighth wicket in a valiant effort to resist, before Ebadt Hossain broke the partnership. Ireland were eventually all out for 265 in 88.3 overs, with Tucker remaining unbeaten on 75. Taijul Islam finished with figures of 4 for 76, while Khaled Ahmed and Hasan Murad took two wickets each.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s first innings was anchored by Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das. Mushfiqur scored a record 106 runs in his 100th Test, while Liton Das recorded his fifth Test century with 128 runs. Mehidy Miraz contributed 47 runs in a 133-run partnership with Liton. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 476.
Ireland’s innings began with a 41-run opening stand between Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie. Stirling (27) was trapped LBW by Khaled Ahmed, while Balbirnie (21) was dismissed by Hasan Murad. Curtis Campher (0) fell to Hasan Murad, and Harry Tector (14) was caught LBW by Taijul Islam, leaving Ireland five down for 94.
Bangladesh opted to bat again, 211 runs ahead, as the match continued with the visitors under pressure to save the Test.
