DEBIGANJ, PANCHAGARH, Nov 20: Masud Parvez, a journalist and long-time community organiser, has sought nomination from the National Citizen Party (NCP) to contest the upcoming national election from the Panchagarh-2 constituency, pledging to work for lasting solutions to the chronic problems of Debiganj and Boda upazilas.

On Sunday, he collected the party's nomination form from its central office in Dhaka, where senior leaders formally handed it over to him. Local NCP activists present at the event welcomed his move.

"I have collected the nomination form to work for the welfare of the people of Debiganj and Boda," said Masud Parvez. "If nominated, I intend to run from Panchagarh-2 and present my development plans to the electorate."

Alongside his role in strengthening the NCP's organizational activities in Debiganj, Masud has long been involved in various social and public service initiatives. He serves as the vice-president of the Debiganj Press Club and enjoys active support among young and middle-aged voters. He also contested the 2021 Debiganj municipal election for the mayoral post.

Al Amin Khondoker, a member of the NCP's Debiganj Upazila committee, said, "Since independence, no one from Debiganj has become a Member of Parliament. In that context, Masud Parvez's nomination could be a hopeful development for the people of Debiganj."

Several local residents echoed similar sentiments, saying the area needs new leadership to address long-standing mismanagement and infrastructural problems. They believe Masud Parvez would be able to present his plans and vision effectively if he receives the party ticket.

Meanwhile, Shishir Asad, chief coordinator of the NCP's Boda Upazila committee, has also collected a nomination form to contest from Panchagarh-2.

Masud Parvez has previously played notable roles in updating the Debiganj municipal voter list, organising eye camps, and contributing to the upazila's anti-corruption committee, among other social activities.
