Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Porwar has warned that the nation will face severe national turmoil if the upcoming general election resembles the controversial polls of 2014, 2018 and 2024.
Speaking as the chief guest at a roadside gathering on Saturday morning in Khulna’s Zero Point, he urged voters to reject corruption, political intimidation and the influence of black money.
He said the public has already expressed its intention to vote for change and to hold those involved in land grabs and attacks on minority temples accountable.
Porwar said Bangladesh now stands at a turning point after years under what he described as an authoritarian government. He argued that repeated cycles of corruption and misrule have persisted across different administrations over the past five decades, regardless of political symbol or party.
He added that successive governments have failed to address fundamental issues such as hunger, poverty, inequality and housing, proving that human-made systems of governance have been insufficient.
Porwar called for building what he described as a Quran-based state to ensure justice and peace in the future.
