The Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB's) Game Development Department has launched the second phase of its nationwide coach education initiative, aimed at strengthening cricket development at the grassroots level.
Following the programme's opening phase in Sylhet, activities have now begun in the Chattogram Division with a three-day Level A Coaching Course for academy coaches.
The course was formally inaugurated on Saturday morning at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium by BCB Director Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury, a BCB press release informed.
A total of 32 academy coaches from across the division are taking part in the sessions, which focus on building the technical expertise and coaching competencies needed to guide young cricketers in their early stages.
The programme will be led by a seasoned team of BCB coaches and trainers, including senior coaches Wahidul Gani and Golam Faruk Suru. Two other coaches Emdad Emdu, NasirUddin Faruk and trainer Morshed Hasan Sijer are the other three in the team.
Former Bangladesh captain and BCB Game Development Head of Operations Habibul Bashar highlighted how the initiative fits into the board's long-term development strategy.
"It's not enough to simply play cricket," he said. "Understanding the game, its techniques, its history and its evolving demands are equally important. Most of the participants in this course work directly at the grassroots, and by enhancing their skills, we ultimately strengthen the foundation of Bangladesh cricket," he added.
"This programme is a crucial step toward building a more sustainable and knowledgeable coaching structure across all regions."
The nationwide coaching programme, which began in Sylhet, will gradually extend to every division in the country. By standardising training and raising the quality of coach education, the BCB aims to ensure that young players everywhere receive consistent and professional guidance. "BSS
