15-minutes ultimatum issued demanding DU Prof's dismissal

A group of students of Dhaka University (DU) issued a 15-minute ultimatum to the university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan demanding immediate and permanent dismissal of a professor accused of sexual harassment.

The protest began around 7:30 PM days after the arrest of Dr. Ershad Halim, a professor in the department of Chemistry. He was taken into custody on the night of November 13 from his Shewrapara residence in Mirpur and later sent to jail by a court order.

Students demanded that the VC publicly outline all actions taken against the accused and commit to his dismissal within 15 minutes. “We will not leave until the university takes a clear stand,” one protester declared.

The demonstration continued, with students refusing to disperse amid growing calls for transparent, swift accountability--and stronger safeguards against sexual misconduct on campus.
