GM Quader, Chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party (JaPa), has urged the interim government to ensure his party’s full participation in the upcoming elections, warning that excluding JaPa would severely compromise the polls’ credibility.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Quader accused the government of steering the country toward a “one-sided and pre-planned” election, devoid of genuine democratic competition. “An election that sidelines a major national party like JaPa cannot be considered credible or representative,” he said.
He alleged that authorities have been deliberately creating obstacles to hinder JaPa’s political activities, including preventing the party from holding public meetings and engaging with supporters. Quader pointed to recent incidents in Dinajpur, Keraniganj, and Mymensingh, where JaPa gatherings were either blocked or disrupted—often without justification and frequently without the provision of basic police security.
Quader condemned what he described as the “misuse of legal and administrative tools” to suppress opposition voices, calling such tactics “undemocratic and damaging to the nation’s political fabric.” He warned that continued suppression of legitimate political activity could erode public confidence in the electoral process itself.
He appealed to the interim government to uphold democratic norms, ensure a level playing field, and refrain from actions that restrict JaPa’s right to campaign freely and peacefully.
