Bangladesh Government Employees’ Unity Council has issued a strict ultimatum demanding the immediate implementation of the 9th pay scale, following recent comments by the Finance Adviser.
The council has set 15 December as the deadline to publish the pay scale in the official gazette, based on a 1:4 minimum-to-maximum salary ratio.
The council demanded a minimum salary of Tk 35,000 and maximum Tk 1,40,000 for 12 grades, gazette notification of the 9th pay scale by December 15 this year effective from January 1, 2026, restoration of excluded time scales and selection grades, reinstatement of salary seniority with pensions alongside gratuity, and an increase of gratuity from 90% to 100% with a Tk 500-per-Tk 1 pension-gratuity ratio.
Coordinator M Mahmudul Hasan warned that if the Pay Commission’s recommendations and gazette publication deadlines are not met, the movement will intensify. “If no visible action is taken by 30 November, a mass rally and continuous sit-in will be announced on 5 December,” he said.
The rally, chaired by Unity Council chief coordinator Md. Wares Ali, was attended by leaders of opposition parties and employee organizations, including Mahmudur Rahman Manna of Nagorik Oikya, Jonaid Saki of Gan Songhoti Andolon, and Nurul Haque Nur of Gan Adhikar Parishad, who expressed support for the employees’ demands.
