Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a woman and rescued her husband in critical condition from their rented apartment in Gazipur’s Konabari area.

The incident took place on Saturday (15 November) morning at a flat in the Nawab Ali Market area. Initial reports suggest that the husband attempted suicide after killing his wife during a family dispute.

The injured husband, Imran Hossain, 40, is the son of Suruj Ali from Amtala village under Haluaghat Police Station in Mymensingh. His wife was identified as Rahima Khatun, 35.
According to police and local sources, Imran, who worked as a butcher, lived with his wife Rahima and their 16-year-old daughter Sharmin on the fifth floor of a building named “Ekta Villa” in the Nawab Ali Market area. Rahima was a homemaker. This was the couple’s second marriage.

Police said an argument between the couple escalated, prompting Imran to slit Rahima’s throat with a sharp machete. He then tried to kill himself with the same weapon. Their daughter Sharmin reportedly witnessed the entire incident. Locals, upon learning about the situation, informed the police.

Konabari police station officer-in-charge Salauddin confirmed the incident, saying that police recovered both victims with their throats slit. During the initial search, officers found Imran still showing signs of life and rushed him to the hospital for advanced treatment. Rahima’s body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.

The OC added that questioning is underway to gather further details and legal procedures are in progress.
