BJSA issues 2 demands, threatens pen-down strike

The Bangladesh Judicial Service Association (BJSA) has demanded immediate deployment of adequate security forces at all courts, judges’ residences, and their travel routes, warning of a work stoppage if the government fails to comply within 48 hours.

The warning came on Friday in a statement signed by BJSA President Md Amirul Islam and General Secretary Muhammad Mazharul Islam.

The association said strict action must be taken against those responsible for negligence in ensuring judges’ security in connection with the recent Rajshahi incident.

It also demanded action against the police personnel who displayed unprofessional conduct by presenting a detained suspect before the media in violation of legal procedures.

The concerns follow Thursday’s brutal killing of the son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman. Police said a family acquaintance named Limon entered the judge’s home and fatally stabbed his ninth-grade son, Tausif Rahman Sumon, with a sharp weapon. When Judge Rahman’s wife, Tasmin Nahar, tried to intervene, she was injured. Limon also sustained injuries during the attack.

BJSA leaders said that unless security arrangements are strengthened urgently, judges across the country may observe a pen-down strike, disrupting judicial activities nationwide.
