A schoolgirl died after committing suicide over family dispute at Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali district on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Fatema Akter Mithila, daughter of Mohinuddin of Prasadpur village under Sahapur union in the upazila. Fatema was a Class IX student of the local Sompara Girls’ High School.
According to locals, Mithila had an argument with her mother over a matter related to her personal life on Wednesday night. Feeling upset, she went to her room and slept.
The next morning, when family members received no response from her for a long time, they broke open the door and found that she had hanged herself from the ceiling fan using her scarf.
Being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Chatkhil Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Firoz Ahmed confirmed the incident and said that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report.
