
Twenty-one judges out of 22, whose services were confirmed at the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, took their oath on Wednesday.
Justice Syed Enayet Hossain who has been hospitalised could not take oath.
Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed administered the oath at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 1:30pm.
Judges from both the Appellate and High Court Divisions were present during the event.
On Tuesday, President Mohammed Shahabuddin confirmed the services of 22 additional judges of the High Court, who were appointed in October last year.
The confirmation comes into effect from the date of taking oath by the judges, said a gazette notification issued by the law ministry on Tuesday afternoon.
It said the president regularised the appointments of the HC judges in consultation with the chief justice as per the constitution.
The 22 judges, whose jobs have been regularised, are Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, Justice Md Mansur Alam, Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur, Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, Justice Md Jabid Hossain, Justice Mubina Asaf, Justice Kazi Waliul Islam, Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, Justice Md Abdul Mannan, Justice Tamanna Rahman Khalidi, Justice Md Shofiul Alam Mahmood, Justice Md Hamidur Rahman, Justice Nasreen Akter, Justice Shathika Hossain, Justice Syed Mohammed Tazrul Hossain, Justice Md Toufiq Inam, Justice Yousuf Abdullah Suman, Justice Sk Tahsin Ali, Justice Foyej Ahmed, Justice Md Sagir Hossain and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi.
Of them, Justice Syed Enayet Hossain could not be sworn on Wednesday as he was hospitalised with illness, SC's Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam said.
Last year, on 8 October, 23 judges were appointed as additional judges for a term of up to two years. From that group, 22 have now been confirmed as permanent judges.
The president, however, has not confirmed the service of Debashish Roy Chowdhury, son of BNP leader Nitai Roy Chowdhury, though he was appointed as an additional judge of the HC along with the 21 judges on October 8 last year.
Debashish's service was not regularised as he is yet to attain 45 years, the minimum age which is mandatory under the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance, 2025, according to the Supreme Court sources.
