CHATTOGRAM, Nov 11: A total of 70 per cent of the intersection design in the junction of three mega projects and two important points at Patenga has so far been completed, said Kazi Hasan Bin Shams, Chief Engineer of Chattogram Develpment Authority (CDA).

He hoped that the construction of the significant project of Chattogram at the Karnaphuli Tunnel point would be completed by June next.

Earlier, the government fixed the deadline for completion of the project by December this year.
He said, the intersection design important junction spots at Patenga has been implemented under the Chattogram Outer Ring Road (CORR) Project.

Earlier, the ECNEC had approved the Revised Development Project Proposal (RDPP) of an estimated taka 648 crore for construction of intersection design in the junction of three mega projects and two important points at Patenga on June 6 in 2023 last.

Hasan bin Shams  said, three mega projects are Karnaphuli Tunnel, 16.5 km long Elevated Expressway and 15.2 km long Coastal Road and Embankment Strengthening Project, also known as Chattogram Outer Ring Road (CORR) Project and two important points of Shah Amanat International Airport link and Patenga sea beach.

"The project has been taken to cover the increasing volume of vehicular traffic at the most significant points at Patenga," he said. Earlier it was approved by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, he said.

Meanwhile, the CDA had udertaken the projects to avert any disaster in the junction of such giant three projects.

The constructions of CORR and Karnaphuli Tunnel, the construction of the 16.5 km long Elevated Expressway have already been completed.

The CDA is constructing the intersection design facility in the North Bank of the Karnaphuli while the Roads Transport and Bridges Ministry is constructing three such Interchanges amenities in the South Bank of the Karnaphuli.

The tunnel was built at a cost of Taka 9,880 crore to turn Chattogram into 'One City Two Towns'. It will cut the road distance between Chattogram and Cox's Bazar, apart from easing the traffic on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway entering the port city to go to other parts of Chattogram division.

Meanwhile, the 15.2 km long Coastal Road and Embankment Strengthening Project, also known as Chattogram Outer Ring Road (CORR) Project has already been constructed. Under the project, a 15.2 Kilometre long road have been constructed on the existing coastal embankment stretching from Patenga to Sagorika Industrial Area in the city.  The road would strengthen the coastal embankment and raise its height from existing 23-24 feet to 33-34 feet.

Besides, the CDA has taken up the elevated expressway for Port City to ease the existing traffic congestion to facilitate smooth communication with 16.5 -kilometre route running from the historic Lalkhan Bazaar to the Shah Amanat International Airport.

Moreover, Shah Amanat International Airport Road and the Patenga sea beach road also merged at the same point.

These projects are not only geared towards improving traffic conditions but are also designed to bolster the city's resilience against natural disasters like tidal surges.

To facilitate one-way traffic, the junction will feature U-loops, underpasses, and roundabouts. The traffic movement through the existing intersection would remain uninterrupted during the construction phase.

The modern junction promises not only to enhance Chattogram's infrastructure but also to resolve the traffic woes that have been a source of concern for city planners and residents alike.
