A man was killed after miscreants set fire to a bus of Alam Asia Paribahan in Phulbari upazila of Mymensingh early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Julhas, believed to be the driver or helper of the bus.
The incident occurred around 3 am on Monday (November 10) in front of a petrol pump at Bhalukjan Bazar under Phulbari municipality.
Confirming the matter, Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rokonuzzaman said the passenger bus had arrived in Phulbari from Dhaka and stopped near a petrol pump around 2:45 am for refueling. All passengers got off the bus, except for a woman and her son who stayed inside due to the late hour. Julhas was also inside the vehicle.
At that moment, three unidentified men approached the bus, set it on fire, and fled the scene immediately. The boy managed to escape, but his mother sustained severe burn injuries. Julhas was burned to death inside the bus.
OC Rokonuzzaman said the injured woman and her son are residents of Phulbari. The woman has been taken to a private hospital in Dhaka for treatment. The victim’s body is now at the police station, and efforts are underway to confirm his full identity.
Police have launched an operation to arrest those involved in the incident.
