Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto lost the toss in the first Test of the two-match series, and Ireland skipper Andy Balbirnie opted to bat first.

Shanto said he would have preferred to bat had he won the toss. Being asked to field first means the hosts might face the challenge of batting in the fourth innings.

The match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
