Two teenage friends were electrocuted after coming into contact with an electric trap set to kill rats at a paddy field in Charfesson upazila of Bhola district on Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 6 PM in a paddy field near the main road in Aligaon village under Omarpur union in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Md Zubayed, 16, son of Md Riaz, a resident of Ward 3 in Aligaon village, and Md Jihan, 15, son of Md Farid, a resident of Ward 4 under Omarpur union. Both were ninth-grade students at two local schools.
According to locals, two friends were returning home after private tuition when they playfully ran through a nearby paddy field when they came into contact with an electric trap installed to kill rats and were severely injured.
Later, they were immediately rescued and taken to Charfesson Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Confirming the incident, Charfesson Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mizanur Rahman Howlader said that police were sent to the spot and are investigating the matter.
Legal action will be taken if a complaint is lodged by the victims’ families, he added.
