JAPA in 'deep doubt' over Feb polls

Jatiya Party (Anisul) Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader has expressed grave concern over what he described as the "deep doubt" prevailing in the country's political arena regarding the upcoming national elections, amid what he termed "extreme disunity" among political parties.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with party leaders and activists at Howlader Tower in Gulshan on Monday, Howlader said, "The people of this country still struggle to believe whether the National Parliament elections will actually be held in February. The government must take responsibility and remove this doubt and uncertainty."

The JAPA leader stressed that the forthcoming elections must be "free, fair, impartial, and participatory," warning that any deviation from these principles could lead to serious political consequences. "If for some reason the elections are not participatory, the country will plunge into an even deeper crisis afterward," he cautioned.

Reflecting on the broader political climate, Howlader lamented what he described as a decline in ethical conduct in public life. "There is disunity across all sectors today because of past unethical political activities. We must move away from such behaviour; otherwise, we will not be able to stand tall as a nation before the world," he said.

Reiterating his call for tolerance and adherence to democratic values, the JAPA Secretary General added, "In politics, there may be differences of opinion, there may be distance in positions, but revenge is never acceptable. The Jatiya Party does not believe in the politics of revenge. We believe in democratic practices and in running the state through an elected government."
