Separate protests by government primary school assistant teachers and MPO-affiliated teachers concluded on Monday after the government promised to implement long-standing pay scale upgrades and teacher transfers.
Following meetings with top officials from the Finance Ministry, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, and the Ministry of Education, leaders of both groups announced the withdrawal of all protest programmes from Tuesday.
For government primary school teachers, a key meeting at the Secretariat with Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Majumder and Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana led to a breakthrough. Convener of the Primary Teacher Demand Implementation Council, Khairun Nahar Lipi, told reporters, "Although our demand is for the 10th grade, the Finance Ministry has issued a press release guaranteeing implementation for the 11th grade. Trusting them, we are withdrawing all our programmes from tomorrow (Tuesday)."
In a parallel development, MPO-affiliated teachers protesting for immediate transfer implementation and administrative reforms also ended their movement after assurances from the Education Ministry.
