
At least three people were killed and five others injured in a three-vehicle collision involving a truck, a CNG, and an auto-rickshaw under Chouddogram upazila in Cumilla on Monday evening.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, the police officials said.
The incident occurred around 6:30 PM at the Felna Kazi Bari U-turn on the Laksam–Chouddogram regional highway.
The injured were identified as Abu Tayyeb, 26, Abdur Rahim, 27, Anwara Begum, 42, auto-rickshaw driver Mahbubul Haque, and one unidentified person.
Confirming the matter Chouddogram police station officer-in-charge M Hilal Uddin Ahmed said that the collision happened when a truck traveling from Laksam to Chouddogram collided head-on at the U-turn with a CNG and an auto-rickshaw coming from Chouddogram toward Nangalkot.
The CNG was crushed under the truck, leaving three people killed and five others injured on the spot.
Fire service personnel with the assistance of local people rescued the injured and took them to Chouddogram Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Due to the severity of their injuries, Abu Tayyeb, Abdur Rahim, Anwara Begum, and the unidentified person were later transferred to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for advanced care, the OC added.
Auto-rickshaw driver Mahbubul Haque, who was following behind, said he
attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but lost control and struck
the CNG from behind, turning the incident into a three-vehicle pileup.
