Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s courtroom drama Haq is maintaining steady momentum at the box office, inching closer to the ₹10 crore milestone after its third day in theatres.

Directed by Suparn S Varma, the film hit cinemas on November 7 and earned ₹3.75 crore on its third day (November 9), bringing its total domestic collection to ₹8.85 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

On its first Sunday, Haq recorded an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 23.60 percent, with the highest turnout during evening shows at 35.98 percent. Afternoon screenings followed at 24.56 percent, while night and morning shows saw 24.30 and 9.54 percent occupancy, respectively.

After opening with ₹1.75 crore on day one and ₹3.35 crore on day two, the film continues to perform well in urban centres and is expected to surpass ₹10 crore soon.

Inspired by the historic 1985 Shah Bano case, Haq tells the story of a 62-year-old Muslim woman, Shah Bano Begum, who sought alimony from her ex-husband, lawyer Mohd Ahmed Khan, after their divorce.

Emraan Hashmi stars as Khan, while Yami Gautam portrays Shah Bano. The real-life case resulted in a landmark Supreme Court verdict granting alimony under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code — a decision later overturned by the Rajiv Gandhi government, sparking national debate on secularism, women’s rights, and the Uniform Civil Code.

Produced by Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Films, and Baweja Studios, Haq also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady in supporting roles.
