Violence broke out at Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj district on Sunday evening over a dispute centring on the control of a housing project, leaving several houses vandalised and set on fire.
Police have since been deployed to restore order as tensions flared between two rival groups involved in the housing business.
According to locals, the incident occurred at around 7 PM in the Khaskandi Begum Bazar area under Baluchar union due to a rivalry over local dominance and disputes in a housing business between Abul Hossain and Suman Mia, both residents of the same village for a long time.
As the dispute escalated on Sunday evening, supporters of Abul Hossain allegedly vandalised and set fire to two houses belonging to Suman Mia’s group.
Sirajdikhan Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abu Bakar Siddique confirmed the incident and said that the situation is now under control.
Additional police have been deployed to the spot and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved, added the OC.
