Govt to buy 700,000 tonnes of Aman paddy, rice this season from Nov 20

The government has set a target of buying 700,000 tonnes of rice and paddy for the upcoming Aman season, raising the price by a maximum of Tk 3 per kg for rice compared to last year while Tk1 for paddy.

According to the government decision, six lakh metric tonnes of parboiled rice would be bought at Tk 50 per kg, while 50,000 metric tonnes of non-parboiled (Atap) rice at Tk 49 per kg, and 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy at Tk 34 per kg from the local production of Aman.

The procurement drive will begin on November 20 and continue until February 28, 2026, across the country, according to the decision of the meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Secretariat on Sunday.

Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, also the chair of the FPMC, chaired the meeting while Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder and other committee members were present.

During the Aman procurement drive in 2024, targets the purchase of 9 lakh tons of rice and paddy at specific prices of Tk 47 per kg for parboiled rice, Tk 46 per kg for non-boiled rice, and Tk 33 per kg for paddy. Beginning from November 17, 2024, the drive ended on March 15, 2025.

After the meeting, Food Adviser Majumder told the media that the production cost of Aman paddy is generally lower than that of Boro paddy, as the Aman season benefits from rainfall, which reduces or even eliminates irrigation costs.
