The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted extensive anti-smuggling drives throughout October 2025, seizuring contraband items worth an estimated Tk 206.42 crore from border areas and various parts of the country.
According to a BGB press release, the seized goods included 3.26 kg of gold, 11.41 kg of silver, 33,910 sarees, 19,580 three-piece/shirtpiece/chadar/blankets, 16,991 ready-made garments, 1.72 lakh cosmetics, and 17.6 lakh fireworks, among a wide range of other items. BGB also recovered 1,500 cows and buffaloes, multiple vehicles including 10 trucks, 21 pickups, and 197 boats, as part of the crackdown on cross-border smuggling networks.
In addition, the border force seized a cache of weapons comprising four pistols, one revolver, three mortar shells, six grenades, and 250 grams of explosives, along with ammunition and other arms. A significant haul of narcotics was also recovered during the operations.
The seized drugs included 13.82 lakh Yaba tablets, 3.2 kg of heroin, 1.78 tonnes of marijuana, 10,582 bottles of foreign liquor, and 1.3 lakh packets of cigarettes, among other substances.
During the month-long operation, BGB arrested 184 suspected smugglers, 210 Bangladeshi nationals, and three Indian citizens for illegal border crossing and smuggling-related activities.
Legal actions have been taken against them.
