Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar on Sunday called on the government to address the demands of government primary school teachers through dialogue, condemning use of police force against demonstrators in Dhaka.

In a statement, Parwar criticized the authorities for deploying water cannons and sound grenades during the protest, which was organized to press for a three-point demand, including upgrading teachers’ salaries to the 10th grade.

“The teachers’ demands deserve sympathetic consideration and should be resolved through discussion,” he said. “The injuries sustained by over a hundred teachers during the protest are deeply regrettable.”

Highlighting the crucial role of teachers as “architects of the nation,” Parwar stressed that any movement involving them should be approached with patience and respect.

He also expressed concern over the indefinite work abstention announced by the teachers, warning that prolonged class disruptions could adversely affect students, particularly with annual examinations approaching.

Parwar urged the government to reconsider its hardline approach and engage in meaningful talks to resolve the issue promptly. “Immediate action is needed to end the teachers’ movement and ensure that classrooms return to normal,” he said.
