A nationwide youth self-defense training project, initiated by Ministry of Youth and Sports and implemented by Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), was inaugurated on Sunday at BKSP campus in Savar.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan inaugurated the program as the chief guest, officially launching the first batch of women’s self-defense training under the project.
Speaking at the event, the adviser said the training initiative, titled ‘Basic Self-Defense Training for Youth’, will continue until 2028, covering 114 batches and training a total of 8,850 young men and women.
He noted that Tk 27 crore project aims to build confidence among youth by teaching them practical self-defense techniques and preparing them to handle adverse situations.
“The training will be conducted across all BKSP regional centers in the country,” he added. “The program began today with the first batch of 45 female trainees in Savar.”
BKSP Director General Brigadier General Md Munirul Islam described the occasion as a special day for the institution.
He expressed pride in being part of a national development initiative aimed at empowering young people through discipline, fitness and confidence.
He said, “Over the next three years, a total of 114 batches comprising 8,850 trainees will receive 15 days of residential training. Except for BKSP Rajshahi, the program will be implemented in all regional centers. Our Judo, Karate, Taekwondo and Shooting departments will conduct the sessions.”
The program’s core objectives include enhancing self-confidence, physical balance, discipline, self-control and overall physical fitness, thereby promoting a positive impact on participants’ lives.
Participants; Bangladeshi citizens aged 18 to 35 who have passed at least SSC and are physically and mentally fit, are being selected through an online, first-come, first-served registration system.
During the training period, participants will receive accommodation, meals, sportswear, training allowance and a certificate upon completion.
