Renowned Islamic preacher Mizanur Rahman Azhari has announced the postponement of all regional Tafsir al-Quran gatherings scheduled for 2025, citing the escalating election-related activities across the country and the need to ease pressure on law enforcement.
In a statement shared via his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Azhari expressed gratitude to the thousands of devotees who have attended his nationwide tafsir programs in recent years. He recalled that last year’s eight regional mahfils drew massive crowds and were conducted peacefully, a success he attributed in large part to the tireless efforts of security forces.
“The overwhelming public turnout required significant logistical support from police and military personnel,” Azhari noted. “Their disciplined and professional conduct in maintaining order deserves our highest respect and appreciation.”
Azhari explained that with political parties already launching major rallies and public events in preparation for the upcoming national elections, holding large religious gatherings during this period could strain state resources and complicate crowd control.
“In the interest of national stability and public safety, I have decided to suspend all tafsir mahfils until after the elections,” he said, emphasizing that the move reflects a sense of social responsibility during a sensitive political moment.
He urged understanding from his followers, stressing that the suspension is temporary and aimed at ensuring peace and efficient use of security infrastructure during a critical time for the nation.
The break from public engagements will allow Azhari to dedicate more time to the Hasanah Foundation, a newly launched initiative focused on advancing moral education, literacy, and community development in Bangladesh.
“This is a pivotal phase for the foundation,” he said. “I must now give my full attention to building its programs and ensuring they serve the long-term welfare of society.”
Azhari assured his audience that the cherished tradition of mass tafsir gatherings will resume once the post-election environment stabilizes.
“With the grace of Allah, we will meet again in peaceful times, Insha’Allah,” he said. “Until then, I humbly request your prayers and continued support, especially for the educational mission of the Hasanah Foundation.”
The announcement has been met with widespread respect on social media, with many praising Azhari for his civic-minded approach and commitment to national harmony.
