Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, the founding General Secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF), has been elected President of World Archery Asia. The election marks a historic milestone, as Chapal becomes the first Bangladeshi to lead the continental governing body of the sport.
The congress of World Archery Asia was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Dhaka on Saturday, attended by delegates from across the continent. Chapal, who had earlier served two terms as the organisation's First Vice-President, won the presidency by a commanding margin.
In an online voting process, Chapal secured 29 votes against nine received by his South Korean rival, Chung Yu Sun. The veteran Korean administrator, a senior executive of Hyundai Group, had previously served multiple terms as President of the Asian body but did not attend the Dhaka congress in person.
As the results were announced, the congress hall erupted in applause, celebrating Chapal's victory, a triumph not only for Bangladesh but also for the growing prominence of South Asian archery. Known both as a skilled organiser and a patron of the sport, Chapal's leadership is expected to strengthen the continent's presence in global archery.
His election underscores Bangladesh's rising stature in international sports administration and its deepening involvement in the global archery movement.
