A woman killed her daughter before committing suicide in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred at around 6:30 PM at Insafnagar village under Ramkrishnapur union in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Reshma Khatun, 26, wife of expatriate Rohidul Islam and her daughter Lamia Khatun, 2.5.
According to local sources, Rohidul went abroad about two years ago but had been unable to send money regularly to support his family.
His wife had been suffering from illness and being unable to afford medical treatment caused her to become mentally broken which led Reshma to strangle her daughter to death and later commit suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling.
Later, upon suspicious, neighbours broke open the door and found their bodies hanging from the ceiling.
Being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy.
Confirming the incident, Daulatpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Solaiman Sheikh said that a case has been filed at Daulatpur Police Station in connection with the incident.
