The Election Commission (EC) has begun evaluating the infrastructure of educational institutions designated as polling centres across Bangladesh ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
A directive issued on Wednesday by Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Secretary of the EC, requested detailed information on schools and colleges that lack boundary walls, have broken doors or windows, or require minor repairs.
The final list of polling centre was approved on October 20, the circular noted, and institutions with infrastructural deficiencies are required to report the data to the Election Assistance-1 branch through regional election officers by November 12.
In a separate directive the same day, the EC also asked for a comprehensive list of polling centres equipped with CCTV cameras, with the same reporting deadline. Senior district and district election officers have been instructed to compile and forward the information via regional offices.
EC officials said these initiatives aim to ensure security, infrastructure readiness, and transparency at polling centres. They added that the Commission is taking extensive measures to make the upcoming election free, fair, peaceful, and technology-driven.
By focusing on both physical preparedness and technological monitoring, the EC hopes to address potential vulnerabilities and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
