The National Paralympic Committee of Bangladesh (NPC) is organising a two-day "Physically Challenged Cricket Tournament" from 3 to 4 December at the Kings Cricket Ground in Bashundhara, Dhaka marking the observance of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
NPC is organising the event in association with the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) Physical Challenged Cricket Wing.
The announcement came during a press conference on Thursday, where NPC Secretary General Dr Maruf Ahmed Mridul shared details of the event.
A total of 80 selected players will be divided into four teams to compete in the tournament.
Prominent guests at the briefing included former Bangladesh captain and NPC brand ambassador Habibul Bashar, BCB Director and Chairman of the Physical Challenged Cricket Wing Zulfikar Ali Khan, NPC Vice-President and Joint Commissioner of Police Nasirul Islam, and NPC Joint Secretary and former cricketer Sanwar Hossain.
Habibul Bashar praised NPC's efforts, saying, "The NPC has organised eight tournaments in the past three months involving physically challenged cricketers. Their commitment is remarkable, and I hope this support continues both at home and abroad."
Zulfikar Ali Khan lauded the initiative as "a meaningful step towards inclusion," adding, "Physically challenged individuals are very much part of us. Through this event, we hope to discover talented players who can represent Bangladesh and bring pride to the nation."
Vice-President Nasirul Islam described the event as "a challenge and an opportunity," noting that several international competitions for physically challenged athletes are on the horizon. "We believe our players will carry the national flag high," he said.
