
Debashish Sarkar, a cricketer of Tangail district, has a dream to play for the national cricket team and the promising cricketer also has a goal to represent the country's cricket on the world stage.
With this goal, this talented cricketer is moving forward. He has already earned fame as a member of the U-19 national team.
Debashish, who came from a rural family in an ordinary home, can be a role model for many young cricketers in the country.
Debashish Sarkar is the only son of Ashish Sarkar and Moyna Rani of Jhunjhunia village in Phulkhi union of Basail upazila under Tangail district. Since his childhood, his deep passion in cricket has made him a focused all-rounder on the cricket field.
He toured India as the captain of the Bangladesh Under-17 national cricket team last year. Under his leadership, the team gained tremendous success in both ODI and Test against the Indian regional team.
Debashish is a hard-working right-arm leg spin bowler cum middle-order batsman. His goal is to become a regular cricketer for the Bangladesh national cricket team.
In an exclusive interview with BSS Debashish Sarkar said his passion towards cricket grew in 2016 while studying at the remote Phulkhi Government Primary School in Basail Upazila of Tangail.
Then with the inspiration of his family members, he moved from the village to Tangail city to learn cricket.
The all-rounder started receiving cricket training under Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) coach and founder of Tangail Sports Academy Arafat Sir.
He regularly plays under-14, 16 and 17 cricket in Tangail district. Debashish said that as a reward for his good performance, he got the opportunity to play for the Under-17 national team on the tour of India in 2022. Not only that, he was given the responsibility of captain.
Debashish scored a half-century in the Test match against India and also played a brilliant innings of 48 runs in an ODI match. Apart from this, Debashish showed impressive performance in the Under-19 Asia Cup held in Dubai and the recent tour of Sri Lanka.
He said that the United Arab Emirates recently toured Bangladesh and he had the opportunity to play in two of the three ODIs held in Mirpur and Rajshahi. Debashish achieved the feat of taking nine wickets for his team.
The right-arm leg spinner also plays for Gazi Tire in the First Division Cricket League. His favorite players are Shakib Al Hasan at home and Sachin Tendulkar in abroad.
Debashish's father Ashish Sarkar told BSS that: "Debashish had great passion for cricket since his childhood. He has reached this place today after a lot of hard work and dedication. I am proud of this achievement that Debashish is now a player in the U-19 national team. I believe that my son will represent the national cricket team one day."
Arafat Rahman, the head coach of Prime Doleshwar Club and founder of Tangail Sports Academy said: "Cricketer Debashish Sarkar is my direct student. He has been showing signs of talent since his childhood. It is a matter of great joy and pride that the talented boy has represented Bangladesh in the Under-19 Asia Cup held in Qatar recently."
