The government has approved the promotion of all 65,502 headteachers of public primary schools to the 10th grade, raising their salary scales.
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education sent a letter to the Finance Ministry’s Finance Division requesting the upgrade. The letter, issued on November 4 and signed by Joint Secretary Rebeca Sultana on November 5, outlined the process for implementing the promotion.
According to the letter, the promotion follows prior approvals from the Finance Division and the Ministry of Public Administration. Six conditions were listed for the upgrade, including receiving official consent, aligning with existing recruitment rules, completing necessary training within 18 months for untrained headteachers, and submitting formal orders to the relevant administrative departments.
Under the new 10th-grade salary scale, headteachers’ pay will increase to Tk 16,000–38,640. Currently, trained headteachers are in the 11th grade (Tk 12,500–30,230), while untrained headteachers are in the 12th grade (Tk 11,300–27,300).
