No government may form under PR system: Mosharraf

BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khondkar Mosharraf Hossain has warned that the proposed proportional representation (PR) system could prevent any government from forming in the country.

Speakingat a seminar on “Tarique Rahman Politics and Policy”, organised by the Dhaka Forum Initiative at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday (November 6), he saidMPs would represent political parties rather than the people under this system.

Mosharraf also criticised efforts to delay or cancel elections, calling them conspiracies by some individuals to create a crisis over non-issues. “There is no alternative to holding elections. Power must be handed over to people’s representatives,” he said.

Appealing to all political parties for cooperation, he added that February is a safe time for voting and rejected the PR system as unacceptable.
