Advisor Council approves 2026 public holiday calendar

The Advisor Council has approved the official public holiday list for 2026.

The announcement was made by Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a press briefing following the council meeting on Thursday afternoon.

According to the press secretary, the council approved a total of 28 holidays for next year, including both executive orders and general holidays. Of these, 9 fall on Fridays and Saturdays, leaving 19 main holidays.
The meeting was held at the office of Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus in Tejgaon, where the holiday list was finalized. Later, Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

In addition, the council approved the “Prevention and Remedy of Enforced Disappearances Ordinance,” which provides the death penalty for enforced disappearances.

The ordinance, finalised after long discussions, clearly defines enforced disappearance and considers it a “continuing offense,” prescribing severe punishments including capital punishment.
