Ordinance approved, maximum punishment for enforced disappearance set at death penalty

The Council of Advisers gave approval to the Enforced Disappearance Prevention and Redress Ordinance, 2025.

Under this ordinance, the maximum punishment for enforced disappearance has been set at the death penalty.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the decision following the 47th meeting of the Council of Advisers, held on Thursday.
The press secretary said that there had been extensive debate for a long time over the issue. Today, it has been finally approved.
