PHULBARI, KURIGRAM, Nov 5: A heroic freedom fighter (FF) named Mokbul Hossain, 70, committed suicide by hanging himself due to family strife and debt pressure in Phulbari Upazila of Kurigram.
Upon receiving the information, Phulbari Police Station (PS) recovered the hanging body of the freedom fighter on Monday and sent it to the Kurigram morgue in the evening for an autopsy.
The incident occurred in Nagarajpur Village under Bhangamor Union of Phulbari Upazila. He was the son of the late Fazlur Rahman of the area.
According to police and local sources, the deceased heroic freedom fighter Mokbul Hossain had been suffering from debt pressure and family discord for a long time. At one point, unbeknownst to his family, he committed suicide by hanging himself from a bamboo frame inside the toilet of his residence on Sunday morning. Later, when family members went to the toilet, they saw his hanging body and screamed. Subsequently, locals informed the police. The police recovered the FF's body and took it to the PS.
Former FF commander Mojibur Rahman said, "I have heard that he committed suicide due to family strife and inability to cope with debt pressure."
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulbari PS Shawkat Ali Sarkar said that after the autopsy, the heroic FF's body was buried with state honour at his home on Monday afternoon.
