Efforts to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion at Charfesson upazila in Bhola district are gaining momentum, as the local administration has announced a series of swift and effective measures to restore order on the main roads.
In an interview with reporters at Upazila Parishad office on Tuesday, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rasna Sharmin Mithi acknowledged that traffic congestion has become a major issue in the Upazila.
She said that the matter has already been discussed in detail during the monthly meeting on law enforcement and traffic management and practical steps will be taken very soon.
UNO Mithi added that strict rules will be enforced to prevent local auto-rickshaws from entering the town. Only a limited number of licensed and signboard-bearing auto-rickshaws will be allowed, which will block the entry of random vehicles and restore traffic order.
A special team formed by the municipality will raise awareness among sidewalk vendors over the next week. Those who do not comply will have their makeshift stalls removed, ensuring smoother pedestrian movement.
The UNO emphasized that the ultimate goal is to make Charfesson a clean, modern and traffic-free town.
Local shoe trader Abu Siddique said that morning and evening traffic jams make loading and unloading goods extremely difficult.
He welcomed the UNO’s initiative, noting that it would benefit local businesses.
Pedestrian Rina Begum said that sidewalks are often blocked by shops and randomly parked auto-rickshaws, making walking difficult and praised the administration’s planned measures.
Another pedestrian, Monir Hossain, called the initiative commendable and expressed hope that with community cooperation, Charfesson could become a model town.
